Per the State of Michigan the adoption of the 2018 Michigan Mechanical Code was pulled back and this cycle will be skipped. They are in the process of adopting the 2021 Michigan Mechanical Code and expect that to take place in the fall of 2022. We will continue to use the 2015 Michigan Mechanical Code and 2015 International Fuel Gas Code. As soon as the 2021 codes are adopted, this site will be updated.
Effective July 29, 2021 the application process was changed and you are now required to submit documentation for each work classification detailing your work experience and this must be signed by the contractor of record for the place you worked. It does not need to be notarized. The change also gives 1 year experience for attending a recognized college or trade school. Go to the link below to watch a YouTube video that covers this information. I created a "Work Experience Record" form to use for each category, email me at mmcexamprep@yahoo.com to receive this form.

Ken,
I just wanted to send you an email to say thank you so much for what you do with this prep course. I took your January 15th class in Lansing and was finally able to get in to take my tests between yesterday and today. Without your class, I am 100% sure that I would not have passed on the first try for both of them like I was able to do these past two days! I was able to take and pass HVAC Equipment and Limited Heating Service, which is everything I'm currently eligible for.

Hello Ken,
I was a student in your January 2020 Michigan Mech Lic. Exam Prep Course. Just wanted to share I felt the class was a real value and a big part of my success passing the Unlimited Heating Service exam. The materials you provided and presented were excellent. So excellent that a year and 3 month after taking the class I finally got around to taking the test. To prepare I simply reviewed the “law” sections for 2 hours the night before and the heating service section literally 20 minutes prior to the exam while waiting in the parking lot. Pleased to share I passed the exam on my first attempt. Now onto adding the add’l work classifications I seek.
Sincerely appreciate your instruction and guidance supporting my efforts to obtain a Michigan Mechanical Contract License needed for my business.
Thank you!
Mike

Ken, wanted to thank you very much for the reference material and the study guide and material. It was all great and helped immensely.
I passed all 5 exams this week. Such a relief to have them all done and out of the way on the first shot.
Wednesday afternoon after I drove up to Lansing I passed Refrigeration with a 98%. Only missed one question and I wish I knew which question it was. Lol
Thursday was Hydronic piping passed with an 87%. Then I took HVAC Equip. Later in the morning and passed with an 88%.
Today was both Unlimited Heating and ACR service exams. Passed Heating with an 86% and ACR with an 89%.
Man did that unlimited heat ever have a lot of fuel oil like you described. I’m certain that’s where I lacked on that one. I’ve never worked on any fuel oil appliance and don’t ever plan to.
Again, thank you so much for the help. I’m glad I found your information while searching Google back at the beginning of this whole process. Very much appreciated.

"Hey Ken,
Wanted to thank you for your time and replying to my emails. I took the HVAC and heating service test last week and was able to pass both test, the class gave me the extra edge to make it possible. I had the knowledge but if I hadn’t known how to utilize the code book in a efficient manner which you teach in the class I’m not sure I would have passed the HVAC. The service test, on the other hand, was easy, I had that done in less then ten minutes. Thanks again." John R.

Thanks to you and all the good information you presented during your class I was able to PASS my HVAC test on the first try with a 80%. The work book you gave me at your class was a great way to study for the exam. Without your class I do not believe I would have passed the HVAC test. Thanks again Ken." Steve R.

Ken I just wanted to take the time to thank you for your time on Saturday. I found your class very informative. I have been studying for the exam for some time now and had I not taken your class I believe I would have not done very well. The way I was studying is not the way that I needed to be. I now feel with a week or two of practice using the methods you taught me I will be able to go and test with confidence. I will and would recommend your class to anyone that is going to test for their mechanical license.

Dear Ken,
I just received my mechanical exam test results and I passed all the exams I tested in. A huge thank you is in order, just passing the tests the first time was worth more than the cost of your class. I couldn't have done it without your very professional and comprehensive class. Your exam study guide was worth its weight in gold, with up to date practice tests and ton of reference material needed to pass the exam. It even included current Senate bills not yet passed and changes to the law not always easily found elsewhere but still essential to passing the exam. What I took most from your class was not memorizing the huge amount of information, but more importantly the teaching of the method of how to look up and reference information quickly. The testing was approximately 6 hours, It was a race for the clock with little time and knowing how and where to reference material quickly was more valuable than the information itself

Thank you again for your amazing class

Note: Code commentaries are not allowed in exam site
Handouts will be provided for the following:
The State of Michigan references the 2015 IFGC and PSI (the testing company) will not put in writing that they will allow the 2018 IFGC to be used. I know some were allowed to take it in and I have not heard of any who were denied taking it in, it would be a risk you take depending on the proctor you get.I have compared the 2015 to the 2018 and there are not many changes. I have a document I give out in the class for those who have the 2015 so they can keep using it once the 2018 is adopted and reference the document showing the changed sections, this way they don't have to buy a 2018 and can wait till the next code cycle to get the 2021 IFGC.
Michigan is currently using the 2015 Michigan Residential Code. When the 2018 International Residential Code came out, Michigan decided not to update this and stayed with the 2015 version which is allowed (this can be on a 6 year cycle). There is now a 2021 International Residential Code which Michigan will be adopting and adding Michigan ammendments with a proposed affective date of October 4, 2021. As of 8/2/21, they are no further along in adopting the 2018 Michigan Mechanical Code.
As for testing, even if they adopt the 2021 MRC and miraculously get the 2018 MMC done by this fall, I do not anticipate any testing to change to these new codes until mid 2022 as Michigan has to re-write all the tests and get them to PSI.
